Final Day of Cycling
The plan was to start out cycling at 9:00, cycle for 50 km and then ride the boat for the final 10 km into Cochem. Since it was raining in the morning, we altered our plan. We are riding down the river until 11:00 and then cycling all the way into Cochem, about 45 km. A much better plan!
We hopped off the boat in Zell and took 20 minutes to check out the town before hitting the trail.
It had quit ☔️ raining and the sun began to poke out. We rode along the Mosel, enjoying the amazing scenery that never got old. It is mind boggling how they can grow grapes so high up into the hills. It was cool to see that they had these narrow rail lines running up the hill. They have little cars on them to take the workers up and down the steep hills.
We stopped in another lovely town along the river. They are all so beautiful with the narrow, winding, cobblestone streets and old timber houses. We split up to find a place to have lunch.
We continued on about 10 km and made another stop in Beilstein, once again a magnificent town, this t8me with a castle! We took a 45 minute break, just enough time for some of us to hike up to the castle. We had the most amazing view of the Mosel and the town below. We hooked up with Marcel’s group here. Some of us grabbed a cool refreshment while we were up there! When we got back down, we took a picture of the whole group, with our bikes. This caused a bit of a commotion in a busy area!!
We were down to our last 11 km. Marcel’s Group took the ferry across the river and cycled on the other side.
We arrived at our boat at 4:45. The guys were ready for happy hour and some of the girls were ready for shopping. It was a 1.5 km walk into town. I had to go to the train station to purchase our tickets, so I only had 5 minutes to shop, enough to purchase a short and jacket that I had spotted back in Zell.
When we got back to the boat the dining room was all set up for the Captain’s Dinner. Our Spanish Chef, Inma, prepared is a lovely meal of Spanish Tapas, it was delicious!! After dinner we had some farewell speeches. We called it a night fairly early in preparation for our early morning!

♥♥♥Thank you for taking us along on your adventures and for taking all these pictures! It was almost like actually being there. The scenery, landscape, countrysides and buildings are so breathtaking, it's like walking into a painting and going far back in time! Brings on a feeling of nostalgia, and maybe a touch of 'homesickness' ♥♥♥
ReplyDeleteThe opportunities to travel to far off countries and actually see how different they are from us , are few and far between, so take advantage of them and enjoy every minute. (Even though it is nice to come home again.) These are memories to cherish forever! ♥♥♥
